Behaviour & Activity Monitoring

Data from the 16 smart-aware apartments at Great Northern Haven (GNH) are being investigated in order to create algorithms to automatically recognize daily behaviours and events.

This project focuses on recognising Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and other events from the raw smart home sensor data.

Central to this work is the creation of a smart home data set with a fully annotated list of corresponding activities. This project will focus on the derivation of features from the raw data and subsequent creation of rule-based and inferencing algorithms to identify certain activities (eg. Leaving the house, preparing a meal or going to sleep) and later inferring ADLs in the larger Great Northern Haven data set.

Additional work investigates the relationship between the extracted activities and a number of health and wellness measures (such as cognition, loneliness and frailty).
