Orla completed a PhD in Contextual Behavioural Science at University College Dublin. As an Assistant Psychologist with ACT Now Ireland, she has delivered training in third wave therapies such Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to both professionals and clinical populations. She is a member of the Editorial Board for the international Journal of Contextual Behavioural Science. On the Changing Lives Initiative, Orla conducted a process and cost-effectiveness evaluation of the Incredible Years Parenting Programme for behaviours consistent with ADHD across Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. She has also published research on adolescent mental health.

Orla lectures in psychology at DkIT where she also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her research work has included examining the behaviour change impact of an ACT digital intervention, on older people with cardiac conditions, as part of the InterReg-funded ECME project, as well as working on the EU Horizon-funded ProACT and SEURO projects focused on self-management of multimorbidity in older age. She also worked on an enterprise collaboration project examining the suitability of biophysiological and behavioural measures of stress and anxiety. Orla is currently working on the Research Ireland-funded Co-Design for Dementia project developing digital solutions to support people living with early-stage Dementia or memory challenges.
